Merel joined Huntington from The Netherlands in October 2008 as a replacement for Djura B that was tragically lost earlier in the year. Merel, unlike the baroque Djura, is a perfect example of the modern Friesian. She is by the very modern Mintse 384 (Sport)and her dam, Ryanne V. is a star mare by Oltman 317.
Martyn broke Merel to harness because of her amazing trot however, she was never shown because she proved to be such an excellent brood mare. Her first foal, Elke H. a filly by Xavier was shown with great success in Victoria. She was awarded the Reserve Champion Friesian award at the 2012 Geelong Royal amongst other prestigious show wins.
Ilke-Merel H. Merel’s filly foal by Lammert 360 was awarded a 2nd premium at the 2011 NSW Keuring. She has been shown on several occasions and has been Champion Friesian each time. Ilke has been retained.
Merel’s future is to breed quality Friesian foals for Huntington Friesians
Merel was entered into the main Stud Book at the 2011 Keuring.
