The quest for the ideal harness horse has always been the driving force behind Huntington. Since the stud was established in 1975, we have specialised in two wonderful and diverse breeds of horse, each prized as harness horses, yet each in their own way, offering so much more: the compact Scot, the Shetland; and, in recent years, that substantial and glamorous European, the Friesian.
With Martyn's speciality being competition harness driving, Huntington horses have been chosen and bred with this in mind. The versatile Shetland has a long history as a harness horse and was a natural choice to launch a stud geared towards driving. These last 30 years have given us much pleasure, and not a little experience, breeding and bringing on generations of Shetlands and we look forward to watching our Huntington Shetlands out there in the showing and competition arenas.
However, in 2000, a new era for Huntington began when we took up fresh reins and brought home our first Friesian, the striking stallion Xavier. With the arrival of the impeccably bred mares, Fardau Geartsje W, in 2002, Djura B in 2004 and the bright and promising filly, Martha v.d. Sanbuorren in 2005, Huntington is now perfectly placed to be one of the pioneers of Friesian breeding in Australia.
We look forward to being a part of the development of this exotic breed in Australia and to seeing horses with that spectacular Friesian blood excel as both harness and riding horses
